Next Town's Trees release date set
My second album, Next Town’s Trees, is finally ready for the world. I’m gonna say a lot more about it in the coming months. And everyone can hear it on March 3, 2023. There will be vinyl and cds and all that.
The album art was made by Tyson Gough, my long-time friend and musical collaborator. I love what he created for this project.
When I wrote these songs, my whole life felt like it was turning over and churning in a way that I didn’t know where I’d end up, but I was excited for the ride. I was recently sober, I had left the church, and I had come out and started dating a man for the first time. Go big or go home, they say. So I did it all at once.
So that was the context for the songwriting and the emotions that drove the music and lyrics. The production came out of many years of studio experimentation on my own and with Nate at Mixed Metaphor Recording. Nate and I ended up building a studio together in my house in 2019 (right after we finished Radishes and Flowers) and this album was our way of exploring the new sounds of that room. I played with so many synth sounds, drum tones, and weird guitars to make all these sounds. I felt like I finally had the tools I needed to bring certain songs to life in a way I could never find before. I’m so happy with the tones and the spaces we were able to make with these songs.
I was going to keep this short but started rambling. More soon.
So, March 3! It’s coming soon. There will be a release show and everything :)
